Resilience is focusing on the things you can control

If you believe you can, you're right

There will always be someone who doubts you, don't let that person be you

Resilience is focusing on the things you can control ⋆ If you believe you can, you're right ⋆ There will always be someone who doubts you, don't let that person be you ⋆

Where to start?

Imposter phenomenon is the persistent feeling of self-doubt and fear of being exposed as a fraud, even when your skills and successes are evident. At work, it can lead to overworking, undervaluing your achievements, and holding back from opportunities, but understanding it is the first step towards building lasting confidence and recognising your true capability.

  1. Practice Assertive Communication

Use “I” statements to express your needs without apology.

    How?

Instead of saying, “Sorry, but could I possibly get a raise?” say, “I’ve delivered strong results, and I’d like to discuss a salary adjustment that reflects my contributions.”

  2. Identify Your Non-Negotiables

Set clear limits on workload, working hours, and commitments.

    How?

If you're consistently asked to stay late, try saying, “I’m happy to give my best during working hours, but I have commitments in the evening that I need to honor.”

  3. Use Cognitive Reappraisal

Reframe stressful situations by focusing on what you can control.

    How?

If a meeting doesn’t go as planned, shift your perspective from “I failed” to “I gained valuable experience that will help me improve next time.”

“I still have a little impostor syndrome… It doesn’t go away, that feeling that you shouldn’t take me that seriously. What do I know? I share that with you because we all have doubts in our abilities, about our power and what that power is.”
